Few years ago I went to see The New Orlean March on Main Market in Krakow. One of the musicians of well-known here Jazz Band Ball Orchestra had very sweet old fashion shoes and white trousers with black stripes. I made a shot.
Preparing poster to my own exhibition I thought that it is my step to Czech land. I found this photo, changed colors into Polish flag, add some graphism and the poster was ready. Easy? Yes. But before I made 3 versions of this one and 5 other different designs before I accepted one for printing.

His works were shown at most of international exhibitions of Poster Art throuout the world.
He loves absurd English poetry. Alice in Wonderland is a book that he strongly recommends to his students. Up to now The Left handed designer - book by Seymour Chwast is one of his bibles. Loves blues and rock and roll but Nino Rota and Paolo Conte as well.
He says: Poster design is a school of thinking. The poster which is sitting simultaneously on two saddles: the visual information and art is a duke of graphic design. Poster designers are aristocrats in this very democratic Country.

Another Life/Theater Poster
Another Life puts the roller-coast ride of this past decade on the stage—from the attacks of 9/11, to the brutalities of our torture programs, and the economic crash of 2008.  To create this complex landscape, Karen Malpede found Handel, an out-size man, a mogul, and his adopted, bought and acquired international family. Handel is an impossible Big Daddy, Koch brother of a man—a demonic beneficiary of the American dream. Another Life is a phantasmagoric look at what has happened to the soul of a nation.

Luba Lukova

Lukova's solo exhibitions have been held at UNESCO, Paris; DDD Gallery, Osaka, Japan; La MaMa, New York; and The Art Institute of Boston. Her many awards include Grand Prix Savignac at the International Poster Salon, Paris; Golden Pencil at One Club, New York; Honor Laureate at the International Invitational Poster Exhibition, Fort Collins, CO; and Gold Medal at the International Poster Biennial, Mexico. She has received commissions from Time magazine, Adobe Systems, Sony Music, Verve Records, Canon, Harvard University, the Cultural Ministry of France, and the War Resisters League. Lukova's work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Library of Congress, Washington, DC; and Bibliotheque Nationale de France, Paris. She is the author of the critically acclaimed “Social Justice” poster portfolio, containing visual reactions to many of the pressing issues of out time. Lukova’s new book, “Graphic Guts”, featuring her social commentary art, will be published this year.

Thick canvas, layered and succulent colors... Portraits with Colored impressionisms and a bit nostalgic had made up the final choice of the exhibition. Nothing except the silk printings could help the designs through poster. We printed the painter’s portram picture in red color on a yellow paper and added the background plant patterns, which has been elicited from the general sense of the works, in white color to them.

In the Name of God

There were more than 100 black & white photos with no location. All were neat and accurate with the same shut size. There was no caption, except for this title : “Mohsen Rastani’s photo collection of Rahian-e-Noor*”. This was the only thing given to us for design.
We had a few arguments with the client especially the photographer, because we did not want to end up with a boring book. We thought about some changes in the collection. We checked previously published photo books and decided to stay clear of a sheer photographic catalog. So we contacted travelers who were subject of these photos and asked them about their own version of the story. Our editors simplified and summarized the texts. The book now consisted of 7 parts and with all these stories and photos of the storytellers had turned into a written visual documentary which was neither story nor photo, instead a combination of both that made a silent movie with minimal plans.
This book has no photographer, author or designer… these are merged into one entity like components of a film.
Our main goal of this group project was to improve the quality level of the book design, to raise awareness of viewer’s visual literacy and to align the client with the designer. Almost all graphic designers have issues with their clients, as they keep interfering and commenting because they won’t be convinced right away.
Designing a book is a “process” directed by the Graphic designer. By controlling the photos, stories and even the graphic design, we tried here to handle it in a poetic manner and finally designed a book called “Shadow & Light”.

* Rahian-e-Noor : referring to group of people who go and visit war zone areas in southern Iran.

This calendar has designed as a New Year gift of SaharKhiz Saffron Co.
For their particular clients. The company has founded in 1932 as a Saffron producer and has a reputation in its own type. For its originality and products quality. These feats led me to design a classic, stylish but functional calender.  In fined work which is 35 x 50cm the read photo of products each in a stylish container has combined with a traditional motif. Photos have seprated from the backgraound to match with suitable motives. For background I preferred a warm solid color that is harmonized with corporate color’s of logo (gold seal and warm red).
Numbers have set in a straight line in the bottom of page for easier use.
For cover I have used warm red as background and motives in gold seal.

“+ H” (one of the Persian alphabet letter) is the name of an installation by Sara Rouhi Sefat. This installation with the aid of a visual metaphor shows how “women’s rights” is created in a patriarchal society, which most parts of it have always been mannish, and the birth of women’s rights in it ends to a “womanish” prefix. [Politic > womanish politic, Management > womanish management, Color > womanish color!] The black and white catalogue of this exhibition shows an installation of “white turbans” which sounds to be in a “pink roses” exhibition! And the exhibition poster with the aid of visual metaphors describes “shredding” women’s rights in a caustic manner.  The metaphors such as a torn net adorned with rose flowers and Persian letters [with an Arabic tune] and… and blobs of blood!
